Dr. and Mrs. Barry Katz (Dana)
608 S. Main St.
“Red
Hill,” is the original name of the Katz’ southern traditional
home built in 1907 on the highest lot in Summerville.
Originally, the land was the site of the only Confederate
hospital which later burned. Several brick columns from the
original structure remain in the back yard and the Katz’ have
found medicine bottles and Confederate bullets buried in the
ground. After the hospital burned, the house was built in 1907
and was bequeathed to the Drayton family. Another fire burned
through the roof in the 1980’s. The master bedroom was added in
the 1920’s. Additional remodeling occurred in the 1970’s, 1990’s
and 2006. The home features original marble flooring, doors and
windows. The backyard was designed during an HGTV landscape
challenge which provided the outdoor kitchen, pool house and
garden. The Katz family enjoys the location of the home which
provides easy access to great restaurants, public parks and
tennis courts. |
