Mr. and Mrs. Greg Elam (Veronique)
Flowertown Bed and Breakfast, 710 S. Main St.
John
Braid built this Victorian style home in 1889 for Benjamin and
Irene Greig. Originally from Scotland, Mr. Greig was so enamored
after visiting South Carolina, he never returned to his
homeland. A traditionally frugal Scot, Mr. Greig designed the
home himself and hired a local builder. After he observed the
way plaster ceilings collapsed in the Charleston earthquake of
1886, he chose heart of pine lumber to finish the entire
interior of the home, including the ceilings. The current owners
bought “The Greig Jessen House” in 1993 and spent four years
remodeling converting it to a bed and breakfast which opened in
April 1997. The owners and their many guests enjoy the piazza
and beautiful garden. Several magazines have featured the inn
and garden including Garden Ideas and Outdoor Living, and
a special interest publication of Better Homes and Gardens.
